5 million starlings over Rome!

Local bird-busters are hitting the streets of Rome to clear the city from thousands of starlings. For decades starlings have descended on the Italian city of Rome making it their winter home. But the bird's excrement leaves the city's residents annoyed and frustrated.

The city council has called the bird-busters for assistance. At a cost of around 120,000 euros ($150,200 U.S. dollars) each season, the starling squad moves around Rome, scaring the birds with recordings of their own distress calls, amplified to ear-splitting volumes.
